$387.5 million
Bitget detected unauthorized transfers from some of its hot and warm wallets at 18:31 UTC on Sept. 24 and first put the loss at $351.6 million, per CryptoSlate. CEO Gracy Chen said cold wallets were not affected, that the loss falls within the coverage of the user protection fund, which holds more than $464 million, and that a preliminary investigation found IP addresses matching the VPN choices of a North Korean hacking group, per Cointelegraph.
Circle and Tether froze one of the attacker's wallets holding about $318,000 in USDT and USDC. Other attacker addresses still hold more than 63,000 ETH, which no issuer can freeze, per CoinDesk.
With the initial figure, September's crypto hack losses already exceeded $684 million, passing April's $646.9 million and making September the costliest month of 2026, per CryptoSlate.
